• Southpaw Tom Gorzelanny is making his first career start against the White Sox tonight, a Chicago native and 2000 graduate of Marist (IL) High School was originally drafted by the White Sox in the 38th round of the 2000 June draft, but opted to play in college at both the University of Kansas (2001-02) and Triton College (2003) in River Grove, Illinois
• Since May 25, Jose Bautista’s .354 batting average (23-for-65) is tied for the best in the majors among third basemen along with Atlanta’s Chipper Jones.
• Since being reinstated from the disabled list on May 27, Jack Wilson’s .329 average (23-for-70) ranks second in the National League and fifth in the majors among shortstops.
• After starting out 1-9 in games started by an opposing lefthander, the Pirates have gone 10-4 in their last 14.
• Outfielder Jason Michaels is tied for second among National League players with 15 RBI this month despite starting just seven of Pittsburgh’s 16 games.
