Today the Pirates have recalled right-handed pitcher John Van Benschoten from Triple-A Indianapolis and have unconditionally released righthander Matt Morris. In four starts with Indy this season, Van Benschoten went 4-0 with a 1.88 ERA (24.0ip/12h/5r/5er10bb/17so), pitching 6.2 innings of no-hit ball in his last start; Tuesday vs. Louisville.
BTW Take:
This is something that would have never taken place under Littlefield. How long did we have to endure Santos and Armas? Morris has been brutal since joining the Pirates. Hopefully JVB will have much better success than he has had in previous recalls.

Morris had to go.
So did Armas and Santos, but they stayed. It actually looks like the Pirates are making moves that should be made rather than ones they are forced to make.
At no point in recent memory have the Pirates been willing to eat a large contract, nor a contract of any size, for a player not performing.
It is a breath of fresh air and maybe proof that this is becoming a MLB franchise.
