After pursuing Durbin in a trade with Detroit, prior to Durbin being non-tendered by the Tigers, the Pirates have lost out a second time. Durbin will be signing with the Phillies.
This will be the second time in a week the Pirates have come up short in the bidding for a free agent pitcher. Last week the Pirates were outbid for the services of Luis Vizcaino by the Rockies.
Other bits:
The Pirates have come to terms with two pitchers signing minor league deals. Adam Bernero, 31, a right handed starter. Also, Kuwatamania reigns. Masumi Kuwata agreed to terms on a minor league deal.
