Pre-Game Notes

TODAY:
The Pirates host the Indians at 1:05. Tony Armas Jr. will start for the Bucs against Jeremy Sowers (LH). Shane Youman, Dan Kolb and John Wasdin will also pitch for the Pirates.

YESTERDAY:
The Pirates lost, 9-8, to the Reds. Tom Gorzelanny started allowing four runs in 3 innings of work. John Grabow also had a tough outing giving up three runs in the 8th inning in taking the loss. Jason Bay started in left, the first time his glove has seen time in a game. Jose Hernandez had two hits and Jose Bautista had two RBI.

TONY ARMAS JR:
The 28-year-old righthander is making his third appearance and second start of the spring. He has posted a 1.80 ERA in two appearances this spring. Armas started at the Twins on 3/7 going 3 innings allowing three hits and one earned run. In his first appearance of the spring against the Braves, Tony retired all six batters he faced.

TOMORROW:
The Pirates an off day, their only one of the spring. Wednesday the Pirates travel to Fort Myers to meet the Red Sox at 1:05. Zach Duke is expected to start for the Bucs against Kasan Gabbard (LH). Also scheduled to pitch are Ian Snell, John Grabow and Kevin Gryboski.

ANOTHER LEFTY:
The Pirates are facing a left-handed starter for the third game in a row and for the fifth time in their last six games. Another lefty, Kasan Gabbard, is scheduled for Wednesday in Fort Myers.

THE HIT PARADE:
The Pirates have 10 or more hits in each of their last eight games. They enter today’s game with a .292 team batting average, fourth among the 18 teams playing in the Grapefruit League.
