The Post Gazette is reporting Gerut has been cut, no surprise here. I hear they may offer him a job in their training room, since he knows it so well.
The big surprise from the article os the possibility of Eldred moving to the outfield. Where did this come from? We haven't heard this for what? 24 hours?
How would Eldred fair as an OF, most likely in right? My guess is...who cares about defense.
How much fun would it be to see him hit those bombs? Add to that the bumbling around in the outfield like a "lineman on ice skates" and you have a show worth the price of admission.
It would be a lot easier to take the persistent losing if the team actually resembled a major league lineup.
Look at the potential lineup:
Duffy, CF
Sanchez, 2B
Bay, LF
LaRoche, 1B
Eldred, RF
Bautista/Castillo, 3B
Paulino/Doumit, C
Wilson, SS
Pitcher, P
That is just what I would call the power lineup.
Nady would get considerable playing time in RF, 3 or 4 games a week unless Eldred actually plays a good D.
Eldred would play 1B a game or two during the week giving LaRoche a break.
Wilson would bat where he belongs, actually the pitcher might bat in front of him.
Fans could see 100 HR's from the 3-4-5 slots in the lineup.
The 100 HR's alone make me pray Eldred knows how to put on a fielders glove. He could be brutal on defense, but that would be expected. If we expect the worst, and he is even palatable in RF. WOW!
I am rambling. I know it. Buh-buh-but that power in the middle of the lineup is making me salivate. Will the defensive blooper reels be fantastic or what when they are followed by a moon shot making up for the gaffs?
All this is provided Eldred can hit a breaking ball without Jobu's help.
