Bob Smizik has a very good, insightful article in the Post-Gazette today. He recaps the last time the Pirates had such a potent lineup.
Smizik did offend me, as a Pirate fan, saying we were "thrilled" with the signing of Burnitz this time last year. I readily admit, I liked the Casey deal and still do. However, the moment the Pirates signed Burnitz, I turned from the forever optimist, to the dire pessimist.
Beyond that, he does a fine job of shocking the readers, to the point it could dampen even the most enthused Pirates fan. A perfect story for the day PiratesFest starts.
