Perfect Timing

I start a blog after all the good juicy rumors have dried up and it is between holidays. Perfect timing.

I was reading the Bob Smizik column ,from the Post Gazette Parker is not the Steelers' No. 1 problem, I came to an ugly conclusion. I somewhat agree with this nitwit. However, for once in his life, he did not go far enough.

Parker is one of the more electrifying players the Steelers have had in a long time. He is a true game breaker. Everyone seems to point out how poorly he runs on the road. The Steelers in general play a different game away from home. Why? I have no idea.

What the Steelers need to do is find a way to better utilize Fast Willie. If the running game isn't working, you need to get him the ball in space. By no means am I saying he is a LaDanian Tomlinson type of back, but the Steelers should take some notes from San Diego.

When the Chargers are not moving the ball on the ground, they find other ways to get LT in open space. A nice combination of screens, short passes, gadget plays will open the field up for the run.

When the pass protection is poor, which it has been consistently this season, Ben needs to find Parker and dump the ball off. These short plays will get the Defense to hold back a bit more from blitzing. Consistently the Steelers are running double moves and try throwing a deep ball when the blitz is in Bens face. Problem is, Ben is hit as he pumps the ball.

It is true Paker is not the No. 1 problem, but he could be a huge solution if the Steelers would use him a little differently.
